According to the 2017 census run in Pakistan, it is estimated that there are across 30,000 transgender individuals in Pakistan. Transgender community undergoes a lot of mental distortion and instability resultant of the behavior of their own family, peers, surrounding, educational institutes, and workplaces.

In Pakistan, the transgender community is commonly tagged as “Khwajasaras” this is a very vast and wide term and basically covers all the 3rd sex parties. Mostly the transgender community is forced indirectly to beg, to perform at parties and functions and to do such jobs which would be so disturbing for the RESPECTABLE society.. but in between all this darkness, we witness some of the rising individuals rising from the dirt that society has produced around this unique creation of Allah Almighty.
Recently we interviewed Sunniya Abbasi the working sensation of the transgender community and also a makeup stylist she serves as a makeup teacher at the first-ever transgender school in Lahore the Gender Guardian also works as a community coordinator at SAATHI foundation, this foundation works against the transgender violation at legal notice, Sunniya is not a makeup influencer but she is successfully running her makeup page Makeup Buzz.

She was born in Lahore at model town, lives there till now her schooling was done at American Lisem school after school she did her intermediate from superior group of colleges Lahore, after intermediate she got admission in NUML Lahore, but unfortunately, the stereotypical behavior of NUMALIANS and the administration and teachers also depressed and stressed her she narrates that she also had a serious clash with HOD of her department because of her gender uniqueness, so, she left NUML because of the taboo that was associated with her.. after dropping off her studies at NUML she quarantined herself at home, she says she was mentally so disturbed that she didn’t want to face anyone but she gathered herself with her father’s support and got admission in Punjab University.. prepared for the examination and cleared her graduation in sociology in one attempt.

From the beginning, she was interested in feminine thing used to wear her mother’s dupatta, her sandals and she narrates that she was fond of makeup since her childhood but she was treated as a boy, in college she realized that she is spiritually something unique and her real struggle started from there, she met unique people like her and at the age of 17-18 totally accepted that she is unique, confessed to her father about her discriminated characteristics and told him about her aims that she wants to be independent. Though her mother is a tough lady, she sometimes gets harsh with Sunniya but her family is supportive.

She is currently working as a makeup teacher at the first transgender school in Lahore named as Gender Guardian joined in 2018. This school teaches the transgender students makeup, stitching and English language she also worked at many NGO’s such as,

  • NAZ Pakistan
  • KSS
  • Also done a government job with Punjab government on PUNJAB AIDS PROGRAMM
  • Worked with HOPE organization, this organization works for the protection of trans rights that were published according to the act on trans rights 2018
  • Along with teaching she currently works with SAATHI foundation as a community coordinator, this organization works for the legal notice transgender violation cases
  • Ahe also runs her makeup page Makeup Buzz she doesn’t tag herself as a beauty influencer but regularly uploads makeup tutorials and skincare videos and tips on her page, she dreams to be an influencer one day.

Sunniya says, there is a point in everyone’s life, where one has to “Accept” what he/she is though whatever it is or has to Pretend, what the society wants it to be, the choice is yours whether to excel and compete or to tolerate and face the worst consequences, in the end, she narrated that once a dialogue from a season by Hollywood clicked her mind that was “ if you first don’t love yourself then how can you love someone else?”

Sunniya commented on the honor killing of transgender, she has a valid point, says if we are not a part of the normal community then why are we murdered on the name of honor? We are not the honor of any man, family, woman, or organization then why killing us? And tagging that honor killing.

The transgender community only wants acceptance, we mostly think that we have to be a little patient and tolerate about this community, NO all we need is a little fresh mindset and Acceptance, gender should not be the reason for discrimination each and everyone is born different, gender is divided by the creator it is not you and me to decide who and who not should and should not do this and that.. what we need today is acceptance for every community because the beauty lies in variation.
In the end, she has a message for all the viewers, listeners and readers

It’s our Born right to live the life that we want. freedom is our basic right and what we all need is acceptance, not tolerance we can be proud for our parents, society, and State too what we need love, acceptance and protection education is necessary for everyone for us and for society too
